Meet Kamini

Certified Personal Trainer and Kung Fu Instructor

At the impressionable age of 11 my family immigrated to Australia from South Africa. Coming from a fairly sheltered background I hadn't had much exposure to sports. I hadn't learned to swim and at that point didn't even know how to ride a bike. Being very different to my peers was difficult and I went through many periods of embarrassment, self-loathing and extremely low self-esteem. I struggled to fit in and I hated my body. Early experiences with sports and exercise in Australia just drew more attention to my awkwardness, so instead I withdrew and tried to disappear or assimilate in all the wrong ways. I always had a desire to be fit. I tried out gyms but always felt out of place and very self-conscious. That all changed when I stepped into my first kung fu school in around1998.

I trained for a number of years achieving an intermediate level and then had a few years off when I became a mum and wife. I returned to consistent training in 2015, which was the best decision for my health I have ever made. In 2018 I left behind my experience in the corporate world to take on Kung Fu instruction as my career.

Wing Chun Kung Fu

Wing Chun Kung Fu enhances your health through physical training, confidence building and mindful practice. It is a practical martial art that favours the use of skill and mental mastery to overcome a stronger, more forceful opponent. It is unification of mind, body and spirit culminating in happiness, resilience and empowerment. Learning kung fu has helped me deal with the stresses of motherhood, work-life balance and societal pressures. It has made me fitter and stronger and helped me to believe that I can be powerful and achieve my dreams. I want to help others see that in themselves.
